The Next Treo Revealed

Today Handspring has taken the wraps off the Treo and we can report that it looks as cool in person as it does in photographs. Handspring representatives were showing it off at a shindig for the press in New York on June 17. And after about three minutes of playing around with it, we can see that it's just one of the reasons that Palm decided to acquire Handspring.

First, here's the rundown: Much of what we speculated about on June 5 turns out to be pretty close to the market. The Treo 600 is both thinner and narrower than the original Treo devices, giving a feel that is more like a phone and less like a PDA with a phone crammed into it. There is no fold-up earpiece like on the current line of Treo devices. On the Treos we've tested over the last couple of years, we always remarked that it seemed the earpiece might break off. The Treo 600 is what those in the wireless business call a candy bar-style device, meaning it doesn't fold.
