The original Surface Duo gets camera improvements and bugfixes in the latest update

Microsoft Surface Duo unfolded held with two hands

Microsoft has released the May 2022 firmware update for the original Surface Duo. Version 2022.215.137 is available for download on all Surface Duo variants, and it brings notable camera improvements, system bugfixes, and general Android Security patches.

What is new in May 2022 firmware for the Surface Duo?

  • The update improves general device stability.
  • The update improves the in-app camera experience in dual-screen modes for applications with dynamic orientation requirements.
  • The update addresses scenarios outlined in the Android Security Bulletin for May 2022.

To install the update, you need at least 98MB of free space on your Surface Duo. Note that it does not apply to the Surface Duo 2 — the second-gen dual-screen phone from Microsoft receives firmware updates separately. You can expect Microsoft to release the May 2022 firmware for the Surface Duo 2 in a couple of days.

In case you missed it, Microsoft this month released a big update for the Surface Pro 7. It also improves cameras and adds optimizations for the Surface Slim Pen 2 and Surface Dock 2.
