HMD Global has begun rolling out Android 8.0 Oreo to its mid-range Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 smartphones.
The announcement was made by the Chief Product Manager at HMD Global, Juho Sarvikas who posted a tweet about the rollout earlier today. Sarvikas has mentioned that the over-the-air update will be delivered in a phased manner, which means users may still have to wait till their devices get the update.
HMD Global committed itself to timely Android security patches and availability of Android Oreo across its entire portfolio by the end of 2017. The company has so far only managed to roll out the update for its flagship Nokia 8 smartphone, with the beta program for the other devices expected to commence soon.
While the rollout has missed the promised timeline, it must be noted that Android Oreo had a very small market-share in December and the majority of smartphones from other manufacturers are yet to receive the update as well, although that isn't an excuse either.
