The Struggle For The Soul of The 21st Century

Former US President, Bill Clinton, presented an astounding speech for the BBC Annual lecture for 2001. Although off topic for Neowin maybe, it is not when it comes to World Affairs. I have personally struggled to understand both sides of the story since the events of Sep 11th and it has not been easy. The 42nd President of The United States delivers a speech that outlines in my opinion the only way forward for the 21st Century, and with that I am happy to present this lecture that was broadcast on BBC1 on Sunday 16 December 2001.

His speech considers what is happening in the war against terrorism, and calls for a long-term strategy to address underlying problems in the countries involved. Having read widely on Islam and the Middle East in the past year, Clinton delivers a message calling for tolerance and issues a challenge to the Muslim world to acknowledge its responsibility for encouraging open debate and democracy.

The title of the lecture refers to a struggle between a Western pluralistic vision of community, in which nobody has a monopoly on the truth, and the ideas of those who believe in one truth.
