This week's highlights in new game releases: May 23-29

For a little while it was looking like the month of May was going to be overflowing with new game releases. However, it looks like the major game publishers took a look at the crowded new release schedule this month and moved the release dates of quite a few major titles (Duke Nukem Forever, F.E.A.R. 3, Red Faction Armageddon, Dungeon Siege 3 and others) to the month of June.

As a result this week's highlights of new game releases are looking, well, a little sparse. The biggest multi-platform game release in the coming week is Dirt 3. Codemasters' latest game in its off-road rally racing game series will be released for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms and it already getting some solid early reviews from game critics. The game itself will have over 50 cars to drive and double the amount of tracks from the previous game in the series, 2009's Dirt 2. Gamers can look forward to driving through all sorts of settings and weather and can also participate in special events known as Gymkhana where it's all about cool driving tricks and styles. Multiplayer modes include some first person shooter-like gameplay such as Capture the Flag and, yes, zombies (sort of).

Also due to be released this week is Dungeons and Dragons: Dragondale. This downloadable fantasy action-RPG is the latest D&D release from publisher Atari and developer Bedlam is due out for the PC and (maybe) the Xbox 360 console this week and features action for solo players or co-op support for up to four players. The game adaptation of the movie Kung Fu Panda 2 is also due for release this week for the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and Nintendo DS consoles. And if you want a warm up to Duke Nukem Forever's release on June 14, you can get the Nintendo DS release Duke Nukem Critical Mass action game this week. Come Get Some!
