Almost five years after Darksiders II's release, THQ Nordic has finally announced a sequel to the popular hack and slash series, its new cinematic trailer is seen above. Just as in previous games, Darksiders III will have its players take the role of a Horseman of the Apocalypse, and this time it is Fury.
Described as the most powerful member of the Four Horsemen, Fury is on a mission to destroy the Seven Deadly Sins' physical manifestations. The game's description provided by THQ Nordic is as follows:
The Charred Council calls upon Fury to battle from the heights of heaven down through the depths of hell in a quest to restore humanity and prove that she is the most powerful of the Horsemen. As a mage, FURY relies on her whip and magic to restore the balance between good and evil. The expansive, Darksiders III game world is presented as an open-ended, living, free-form planet Earth that is dilapidated by war and decay, and overrun by nature.
The new game's events will take place in the same timeframe as the series' previous entries, and features an open-world setting littered with environmental puzzles as well as plenty of opponents to witness the new horseman's fury. Its development is being handled by Gunfire Games, which includes several developers from Vigil Games, the original studio behind the Darksiders franchise.
Darksiders III does not have a definite release date yet, the announcement only revealing that it will be available sometime in 2018 for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
