Toshiba have announced the delay of their HD-DVD players in the US. They said that the players will now be released in April so that it can synchronise the release with film releases from Hollywood studios. They commented that they were unable to give an exact date at this time.
Speaking to press Junko Furuta, a Toshiba Spokesperson said the company was "currently working with major studios and major retailers to finalize sales dates of our players". Toshiba are keen to get their player out to the American market as soon as possible, as the release of Sony's Blu-ray format is expected in the summer. Toshiba's HD-DVD players will start priced at $499.
