After originally planning to release HD-DVD players to the US market late this year, Toshiba has announced a delay until February or March of 2006. Toshiba and other HD-DVD supporters have agreed that a massive entry into the market would better suit the format over the gradual approach which was originally planned. The change places HD-DVD players on the market around the time of Sony's Blu-Ray packing Playstation 3, which all but eliminates HD-DVD's chance to gain momentum prior to Blu-Ray's big coming out party. The Japanese HD-DVD player launch is still on for the end of this year.
