The Kickstarter crowd source funding website can now lay claim to two more successfully funded games. One of them is a revival of the Tex Murphy adventure game series. That game's Kickstarter page reached its $500,000 goal several days ahead of schedule and still has four more days to go as of this writing.
The new game, developed by the creators of the original Tex Murphy titles, has a description on its site, saying:
The new game will incorporate the very best of the classic Tex Murphy elements - sci-fi, film noir, witty dialogue, great characters, beautifully integrated FMV, and a deep, engaging story - but it will also enhance the experience of the former games with stunning new graphics, a sleek new interface, and other updates.
The other game that has reached its goal on Kickstarter is Two Guys SpaceVenture, the code name for the new game from Scott Murphy and Mark Crowe, the creative force behind the first four of the humorous six games in the Space Quest franchise. Their own $500,000 fund raising goal was reached earlier today and still has about a day and a half to go before it is completed.
While their new game won't be using the Space Quest title or characters (those are now owned by Activision, which acquired the rights to the games a few years ago), it sound like this new "SpaceVenture" will be very much a spiritual successor to those classic adventure games.
Other classic game franchises that have been successfully funded by Kickstarter campaigns in the last few months include Wasteland, Shadowrun and Leisure Suit Larry.
