In a break with tradition, Microsoft is to launch Windows XP in the UK before the US. While Bill Gates will host a bash in New York on October 25th, Steve Ballmer is flying into London to head up an event at The Royal Festival Hall. Due to time differences, the London gig will beat the US show by several hours.
According to a Microsoft spokesman, Ballmer's decision to front the London launch is due to the importance the CEO places on the UK market. A number of Windows XP Premier Partners, including Intel, Dell, Compaq, Hewlett Packard, Sony, QXL, lastminute.com, Jessops, HMV, Dixons and Virgin will swell the numbers.
Intel and Microsoft will be cementing their already close relationship with the launch of a joint logo programme extending 'Intel Inside' to 'Intel and XP Inside'.
