Towards the end of each year, Valve traditionally reveals a list of best-selling Steam games for that year. With 2018 almost at an end, the company has once again showcased the top games on its platform, arranging them in different categories such as "top sellers", "top selling VR games", and games with "most simultaneous players".
While Valve doesn't release exact sales figures, it does divide its top 100 best-selling games into "Platinum", "Gold", "Silver, and "Bronze" categories based on number of copies sold.
Prominent entries in the Platinum categories include GTA V - which continues to be a cash cow for Take-Two Interactive -, Monster Hunter: World, Far Cry 5, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, PUBG, and Rocket League. The Gold category is headlined by Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Stellaris, Assassin's Creed Origins, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
Silver category games include Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Dying Light, and Fallout 4. Lastly, the Bronze category features Artifact, For Honor, Dark Souls 3, Factorio, and Sniper Elite 4, among numerous others.
Meanwhile, the top selling VR games include Fallout 4 VR, Beat Saber, Gorn, and Superhot VR. Best-selling new releases of 2018 include many of the aforementioned games, along with others such as Into the Breach, Vampyr, Strange Brigade, Call of Cthulhu, and Project Hospital among others. Top Early Access graduates are headlined by Northgard, The Forest, Dead Cells, and Rimworld.
Lastly, games have also been categorized based on the number of simultaneous players. Unsurprisingly, GTA V, DOTA 2, PUBG, Rainbow Six Siege, and CS: GO headline this list with more than 100,000 simultaneous players.
You can check out all these lists on Valve's dedicated Steam page here. Also, remember that the Winter 2018 sale is going on which means that you can grab most of these titles at discounted prices.
