Since introducing the Vivo NEX smartphone early last year with a pop-up selfie camera as its main attraction, Vivo seems to have kept the habit of producing more devices that feature that design. Last month, the Chinese firm unveiled the Vivo V15 Pro with a 32MP pop-up front camera and went on to announce the Vivo V15 and X27 last week.
In keeping with that design, Vivo debuted today its latest mid-range phone, the S1. The device sports a 6.53-inch Full HD+ display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and a 90.95% screen-to-body ratio. Its "elevating" camera, as Vivo likes to put it, has a 24.8MP sensor. Vivo also claims the front camera is capable of identifying 103 facial features to enhance the resulting photo.
On the back of the device sits a triple camera setup featuring a 12MP main sensor paired with an 8MP wide-angle shooter and a 5MP depth sensor. Like the V15 Pro, it includes Vivo's in-house Jovi voice assistant which can be activated by tapping its dedicated left-side button.
Under the hood, the phone is powered by a Helio P70 SoC coupled with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage, which is expandable with a microSD card slot. It runs Android 9.0 Pie-based Funtouch OS 9. Plus, the device caters to gamers as well with a Game Turbo mode. Its fingerprint sensor is still mounted on the back and it packs a 3,940mAh battery.
The handset will ship in Ice Lake Blue and Pet Pink color variants for ¥2,298, or approximately $342 based on current conversion rate. It will be available to purchase on April 1 in China via Vivo's online storefront, though there's no word yet on its international availability.
