Getting a fingerprint scanner into a smartphone screen has been a hot topic these days. Vivo made waves at CES when it showed off it X20 Plus handset with the technology under the OLED screen, courtesy of Synaptics. Now, Vivo has announced the unit is shipping, but with a slightly different name.
The X20 Plus UD is being focused on China right now, with pre-orders starting at 10 a.m. February 1. The sale price is expected to be ¥3598 or about $565. It appears a gold-on-black version is the only color available initially.
If the device looks familiar, it is. It supposedly has the same specs as the X20 Plus that was released in October with the sole change being the Clear ID fingerprint sensor. The specs are as follows:
- 6.43-inch screen
- 2160 x 1080 18:9 OLED display
- two 12MP cameras
- 4GB RAM
- 128GB storage
- 3905 mAh battery
- Supports Dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, USB2.0, GPS positioning
The processor is listed as "8-core (4 * Gold high-performance Kryo cores 2.2GHz + 4 * Low-power Kryo cores 1.9GHz)." slightly different from the X20 Plus' "4 * Gold high-performance Kryo cores 2.2GHz + 4 * Low-power Kryo cores 1.8GHz." The X20 Plus equated to a Snapdragon 660.
The X20 Plus is still a China-only device, so it is likely the UD version will stay that way as well for awhile.
