I'm sure it makes perfect sense to folks working inside Microsoft, but from the outside, it looks like Microsoft's got an awful lot of different (and competing) components to its search strategy. Today, MSN announced it is acquiring Lookout Software, an email/desktop search vendor. (Is this a competitive response to what Apple recently showed with Mac OS X "Tiger" search feature called "Spotlight"? Good question.)
