Earlier today Neowin covered news about how Barack Obama and John McCain suffered cyber attacks during their summer campaigning, but more details have been released on how the White House was also a target. During the attacks on the White House computer network, Chinese hackers managed to take emails that were sent between government officials and took information from them before the technicians patched the system.
Though not confirmed, an official who spoke to FT.Com suspected that the Chinese government was behind these attacks saying "We are getting very targeted Chinese attacks so it stretches credulity that these are not directed by government-related organizations", he also admitted that it can be very hard to track down the source of the attacker due to different servers in different countries.
This is not the first time the US have sustained cyber attacks quite recently the Pentagon came under constant attacks in search of information and it did achieve its goal in retrieving information if only for a short time until the network was taken down so it could be patched and repaired. The US have tried to cover themselves abroad as well by putting restrictions on high ranking officials from using their mobile devices or personal computers in certain countries incase they were infiltrated.
