Sling TV is available on mobile devices, the Xbox console, and regular PCs through the desktop application. But as of today, Windows 10 users are getting their own dedicated universal app, available for free from the Windows Store.
Sling TV is a popular internet-based service, that offers 'over-the-top TV', with live and on-demand shows and channels available on a variety of devices. The company has been supporting Windows PCs for a good long while through a regular x86 desktop app, but Windows 10 users have a lot to look forward to with this new specially-crafted modern app.
The company’s efforts jive very well with Microsoft’s vision for its platform, offering users a quick and simple way to install it and access their favorite content. On top of the regular features available on all editions of Sling TV, the Windows 10 version comes with a few extra bells and whistles such as support for Live Tiles, touch commands, integration with Cortana and a responsive, high-DPI supporting interface, thanks to the Universal Windows Platform.
The company said:
We’re excited for customers to experience the Windows 10 Sling TV app, taking advantage of capabilities unique to our platform, such as Cortana voice commands and Live Tiles. Microsoft continuously works with industry leading partners to bring high quality apps to the Windows Store and we’re pleased to offer Sling TV as another way for consumers to experience live TV on Windows 10 devices.
That being said, there’s no reason to be worried if you’re a user of the classic desktop app. The company said it plans to continue and support its legacy app for the foreseeable future. The company also mentioned it would be bringing its services to “additional Windows 10 devices” in the coming months, possibly hinting at Windows 10 Mobile support.
