With the launch of Windows 10, Cortana has arrived on the desktop. While the assistant can do many things, one of the key features is being able to act upon voice commands. But if you find Cortana not responding correctly or having trouble picking up your voice, you may want to 'retrain' her - and here's how you do it.
The first thing to do is make sure you have the feature turned on; you can do this by clicking on the microphone in the search box or clicking on the Start button and navigating to the Cortana app. Once you have made sure the feature is enabled (if Cortana opens without prompting to you to enable her, then it is already on), here is how you can retrain Cortana:
- Open Cortana and click on the third icon in the left bar that looks a notebook
- Click 'Settings'
- Turn on 'Hey Cortana'
- Click 'Learn My Voice'
You will then be walked through six phrases which you will need to read aloud so that Cortana can become familiar with your voice. After completing these steps, the digital assistant should become more reliable to your vocal inputs.
If this fails to improve your experience, make sure that your microphone is close enough to you that your voice is being picked up too.
