Users of the software programs included in the Windows Live Essentials 2011 collection can now download and install a new edition of the bundle. The official Windows Experience blog reports that Microsoft has released a new update to the bundle, which includes minor updates to a number of programs, including Windows Live Messenger, Mail, Photo Gallery, Movie Maker, Family Safety, Writer, and Mesh.
While this is considered to be a minor update, Microsoft does say that that this download also contains "critical fixes for the Essentials package." As a result, previous owners of Windows Live Essentials 2011 will be required to download the update sometime in the next few months. If you don't want to download the package right away, Microsoft Update on both Windows Vista and Windows 7 will prompt you to download the package in a few weeks.
Microsoft does not give any specifics about what's new or changed in the new version of Windows Live Essentials 2011. However, it adds that people who have been running the older Windows Live Essentials 2009 package will see a number of new features in the 2011 edition, including "new social features in Windows Live Messenger, the ability to chat with Facebook friends, photo fuse in Photo Gallery, new themes in Movie Maker, and much more."
