Tony Buckley, game director of Wipeout HD for the Playstation 3 has just announced new details on an upcoming expansion pack for the title. Named 'Fury' the expansion pack sets to bring eight new tracks, three new game modes to the game (two of which will be online enabled) and 13 new ships.
Along with the expansion the game will be receiving front end updates with a restyled menu and improved multiplayer functionalities.
Eliminator, the first new mode is all about destroying the other contestants, with racing taking the back seat. The winner is the first one to reach the target score. Players will take advantage of the game's large arsenal of weapons to deal out the damage.
Zone Battle is the second mode, where the player's ship is automatically accelerated. Players then must pass over zone pads, where they must decide if they use bars to boost their ship even more or absorb to regain energy. Zone barriers will also litter the track, which can easily destroy your ship as you boost towards the target zone.
Detonator mode, the last of the new modes, will test both the players piloting skills and shooting accuracy. Players score points by destroying mines which are scattered around the track and taking out a bomb for additional points. Players are rewarded with more points the more accurate they are.
Developed by Sony Liverpool and released in September last year, Wipeout HD boasts beautiful 1080p graphics at 60 frames per second and an energetic 5.1 Dolby surround soundtrack. Pricing has yet to be announced, but Tony Buckley has promised more details to be released at E3 this week.
