Microsoft's major Dashboard update for its Xbox 360 console is now available worldwide. But that doesn't mean the release of the new user interface has been 100 percent smooth. Indeed, US users have found that one of the new streaming movie apps that was supposed to be included isn't working at all.
That happens to be the Epix app which was supposed to allow US Xbox 360 owners access to the movie library of the pay cable TV channel. Epix runs new and classic movies from MGM, Paramount and Lionsgate (indeed the channel has the rights to run nearly all of the James Bond movies in December).
A post on the Xbox Live status page admits to issues with the Epix app without going into specifics, saying, "We are aware of the problem and are working to resolve the issue. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience." All of the other streaming video apps, including Netflix, Hulu Plus and ESPN, are up and running normally.
Meanwhile, the reaction to the entire Xbox Dashboard update has been, rather predictably, mixed from Xbox 360 users. News.com has posted up some of the reactions from users via their Twitter messages. One Xbox 360 gamer, "Kelvinwins", said, "Metro design is lovely, but the app selection should have been ready for launch. Just a new skin until then." However, another Twitter messenger, "ShotZ 007", said the new Dashboard is "miles better than the old one."
