Another Xbox Game Studios title is soon breaching into Steam, and Undead Labs' zombie survival game State of Decay 2 is the lucky pick this time. The game originally launched in May 2018 on Xbox One and Windows 10 via the Microsoft Store, but in early 2020, PC gamers will also get to experience it through Steam.
A store page for the title has already gone up on Steam, and although it shows the official release date as April 1, 2024, a developer's note near the bottom of the page reveals the actual early 2020 release window. That same note also adds that "there are some wild surprises" planned to arrive in the coming months, which could be pointing towards another expansion.
Looking at other recent Xbox Game Studios releases on Steam, like Gears 5, it's likely that cross-play between Steam, Windows 10, and Xbox One players will be present.
This community and base-building survival title got itself a 7.5 verdict on its review from us, with most of the points taken off due to the buggy state it released in. However, the developer has since brought in major bug fixing updates, content drops, expansions, and more to the game, significantly improving its state. Steam users will basically be dropping into a very different game from what it was before.
State of Decay 2 comes in at $29.99 on the Microsoft Store for Xbox One and Windows 10, and we can assume the Steam version will cost the same when it releases next year. The zombie title is also available in Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass for Console and PC subscriptions.
