It's that time again, where Xbox Live Gold subscribers find out what cool extras will be bestowed upon them for free. Microsoft has again lifted the curtain on the games we can expect to nab for free during the month of December and there's plenty to get excited about.
Starting Dec. 1, "The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing", an action-RPG, will be available for download on Xbox One, followed by Square Enix's stealth-action "Thief" on Dec. 15. Thief was one of the more impressive titles of 2014 but was marred by numerous bugs at launch that made the game difficult to deal with. It seems that those flaws have been worked on and the game plays rather well, making the game a fantastic freebie.
Xbox 360 owners will have Castlestorm (Dec. 1-15), Sacred 3 (Dec. 16-31) and Operation Flashpoint (Dec. 13-31) as downloadable games for free. Microsoft has made it known, backwards compatibility on the Xbox One is extending to all Games with Gold titles from now on, so Xbox One owners will also be able to nab the three extra titles, making for a potential total of five free games in December. Xbox One owners wishing to get all 5 games must visit xbox.com/gameswithgold and click the "Download for Xbox 360" link in order to get the games for free. They'll eventually show up in your "My Games & Apps" folder on the Xbox One and be available for download on your Xbox One console.
