Microsoft’s original Xbox One has had a pretty hard time competing with Sony’s PlayStation 4. But it looks like its fortunes may have turned, especially with the launch of the Xbox One S, as this is the fourth month in a row that Microsoft’s console outsells its rival in the US.
Data from industry-tracking firm NPD, shows that the Xbox was once against the best-selling console in the US, for the month of October. Microsoft’s momentum in this field is thought to be largely due to the updated and slimmer Xbox One S, the highly discounted Xbox One and the promotional bundles that the company keeps pushing.
Its victory in the States was mirrored in the UK and Australia during October, where Microsoft managed to not only outsell the Playstation 4, but also widen its lead considerably. The company said:
Thanks to the passion of Xbox fans worldwide and their continued excitement for Xbox One S, Xbox One was once again the best-selling console in October in the U.S., U.K. and Australia according to NPD Group and GfK Entertainment. Xbox One has been the best-selling console in the U.S. for the past four months, and in the U.K. and Australia in each of the last two months.
Microsoft has a lot of momentum going into the holiday shopping season. Between game and console bundles and the launch of a new software version, the company is hoping to continue to entices gamers for this season. However, there’s fierce competition on the horizon, given Sony’s recently launched PlayStation 4 Pro, which comes with more powerful specs and 4K gaming.
