It was over a year and a half ago when Microsoft gave a first look at Gears Tactics, a turn-based strategy combat title heralding gameplay similar to the XCOM series. Today during The Game Awards 2019 show, Gears Tactics received a full trailer, showcasing gameplay and receiving a release date of April 28, 2020. See it above.
The squad-based title will have the familiar cover-based gameplay of the main series, but now obviously in a new perspective. Squad customization will be there in a big way, with armor and gun tinkering incoming. Boss fights will be a big focus in the game too. Be prepared to miss those 99% chance shots at point-blank.
Moreover, the game's campaign will be over 40 hours long, with an "immersive and character-driven story" following Gabe Diaz in his quest to "hunt down an evil mastermind who makes monsters." This will be a prequel set 12 years before the beginning of Marcus Fenix's saga, right as the Locust War is starting.
Being developed by The Coalition and Splash Damage, the game will be a PC exclusive, at least for now, coming to Windows 10 via Microsoft Store, Steam, and the Xbox Game Pass PC subscription on April 28.
Moreover, The Thrashball Cole character pack will be available a bonus for those who pre-order the game and Xbox Game Pass PC subscribers that jump in before May 4, 2020.
