Xiaomi recently dabbled with Windows 10 Mobile by releasing a ROM for the LTE version of its Mi 4 smartphone. It also announced a Windows 10 version of its Mi Pad 2 tablet last month. Now, it seems the company might be ready to release a variant of its next flagship smartphone based on Microsoft's OS as well, if a new rumour is to be believed.
For the last few months, details about Xiaomi's forthcoming flagship smartphone, the Mi 5, have leaked online on multiple occasions. The company's co-founder, Li Wanqiang, recently confirmed that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 touting smartphone had entered mass production and is on track for its February 24 launch.
Although Li did not give out any other details about the device, an article published by Anzhuo.cn revealed that the Android-powered Mi 5 will have four versions based on storage, RAM and connectivity options. Now, the same publication has revealed, citing information from a company insider, that a Windows 10 Mobile-based variant of the smartphone will also be launched at the February 24 event.
It is also likely that Xiaomi might release a ROM based on Windows 10 Mobile for the Mi 5 as it did for its current flagship, but there is no way to confirm the company's plans until it makes the official announcement later this month.
