Earlier today, tipster Aggiornamenti Lumia shared an early sneak peek into the new WhatsApp desktop app that Meta is working on. The new software is apparently built using Universal Windows Platform (UWP) and is faster at general loading than the current version. The current app is based on the Electron framework. As can be seen in the image below, it gets the Windows 11 rounded corners and acrylic effects treatment.
For those who are intrigued by this and want to give it a go, there's excellent news. The Microsoft Store link for the new WhatsApp desktop, which is currently in beta, was shared by Twitter user WindowsBlogItalia. Here's the link in case you want to try.
The Store description says you need Windows 10 build 18362.0 or newer but sadly, it doesn't seem to be working with my Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 even though I'm running a supposedly compatible Windows build.
The new WhatsApp Beta offers the following settings:
- General
- Account
- Chat
- Notifications
- Memory
- Help
Aggiornamenti Lumia notes that the notification system works even when the app isn't open. A new Drawing feature is also present which apparently allows users to scribble/draw on the screen which will be sent to the recipient in the form of an image.
