Today, Microsoft announced two new portable PCs, the Surface Book 3 and the Surface Go 2. They're not out yet, but pre-orders just went live. If you want to get one on the first day they're available, now's the time to jump on-board.
The Surface Book 3 doesn't come in as many configurations as its predecessor did; however, Microsoft does like to add some as they go. Here are the configurations that you can pre-order:
Size (inches) | CPU | GPU | RAM | Storage | Price |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
13.5 | Core i5-1035G7 | Iris Plus | 8GB | 256GB | $1,599.99 |
Core i7-1065G7 | GTX 1650 with 4GB GDDR5 | 16GB | $1,999.99 | ||
32GB | 512GB | $2,499.99 | |||
1TB | $2,699.99 | ||||
15 | GTX 1660 Ti with 6GB GDDR6 | 16GB | 256GB | $2,299.99 | |
32GB | 512GB | $2,799.99 | |||
1TB | $2,999.99 | ||||
2TB | $3,399.99 |
As you can see, prices have gone up, and the barrier of entry for both models is higher. Don't be surprised if we see lower-end SKUs and discounts later on.
The Surface Book 3 for Business comes with Windows 10 Pro instead of Home, and the 15-inch model has an option for Quadro RTX 3000 graphics with 6GB GDDR6.
Next up is the Surface Go 2, which actually has more configurations than the three that were offered on the original, thanks to the additional CPU option. And interestingly, the LTE model is available on day one, something that's never happened before with an Intel-based Surface product.
CPU | RAM | Storage | LTE | Price |
---|---|---|---|---|
Pentium Gold 4425Y | 4GB | 64GB eMMC | No | $399.99 |
8GB | 128GB SSD | $549.99 | ||
Core m3-8100Y | $629.99 | |||
Yes | $729.99 |
While the Go 2 ships with Windows 10 Home in S mode, the business model still ships with Windows 10 Pro, and there's also a variant with a 256GB SSD and 4G LTE.
