Although it was reported earlier that YouTube's streaming service could be weeks away, to our surprise, YouTube has launched the service even sooner than anticipated. Music Key beta is YouTube's first attempt at creating a premium paid service from its millions of music videos that are currently available through its streaming service.
While there is nothing revolutionary about the new paid service, Music Key beta does give users what they have been asking for. The new premium service will allow subscribers to stream music videos without the interference of ads and download videos for offline viewing. Subscribers will also be able to stream videos in the background, even if the app has been minimized or the device is locked.
The subscription service will also include access to Google Play Music. This will give subscribers streaming access to over 30 million songs. For those that are interested, be sure to sign up for the beta to receive an invite. This will give you access to the service for six months at no cost. The service will cost $7.99 / month for a limited promotional period, after which it will cost $9.99 a month.
