December 3rd, 2001 will be remembered and revered by Nintendo fans as the day that two of the finest games seen in years arrived on a Nintendo platform. The anticipation surrounding Super Smash Bros. Melee and Pikmin (both in the mainstream and fan gaming communities) has been steadily growing since the big trade shows of the year (E3 and Space World) and now the fruit of Nintendo's labor is about to pay off.
Super Smash Bros. Melee is nothing short of a total triumph for Nintendo fans out there and is easily one of the best titles of the year. Developer HAL and Nintendo put their collective brains together to come up with a sequel to the unexpected and much- appreciated N64 Super Smash Bros. and the result is a new, improved GameCube fighting title that's as deep as it is beautiful. Featuring 25 classic Nintendo characters, amazing revamped musical delights, and multiplayer fun in spades, its time to polish up your Pikachu, wax down your Link and prepare to do mortal combat as we lay down the law.
There is no doubt that Super Smash Bros. Melee is one the top games on the GameCube and will be a huge hit this Christmas. But does it really do that much more than the original N64 title? In terms of design, control and gameplay, it doesn't. Instead, Super Smash Bros. Melee adds, adds and adds some more fun to the already superb original game. The extra attention to detail, characters, sights and sounds are a Nintendo enthusiasts' wet dream.
Be assured that all those people you call friends that stare at the TV screen in total disbelief and utter confusion at the carnage they are witnessing will soon be sniffing around that spare joypad, wondering how they can get in on the action. HAL and Nintendo have done a stellar job at bringing a massive amount of in-depth fun to the GameCube. This is one game you won't put down until every technique, option and secret has been revealed.
