Before Dawn is a lightweight, free and multi-platform screensaver which uses a wide variety of web-based technologies. The application allows you to quickly generate screensavers by using CSS, Canvas, HTML, JavaScript, and many other tools. The Wiki tells you everything you need to know so you can build your own screensaver. In theory, generating a Before Dawn screensaver is as simple as writing an HTML page. The core of the app is built on Electron, a system that allows you to build desktop applications that run on node.js and are rendered via Chrome.
The application comes with a series of screensavers included, such as the Flying Emoji, Atari Attract Mode, Astronomy Photos and others. You can get a quick preview of the other screensavers via this preview page. Before Dawn can be used on all major platforms, including Linux, Mac OS and MS Windows.
Before Dawn 0.9.25 changelog:
- This release fixes a bug in the editor where previews weren't getting updated properly, and it also upgrades to a newer version of Electron to handle some security notices.
