Google adds its own AI art maker in its experimental Search Generative Experience

Google has allowed US users to access its experimental Search Generative Experience (SGE) since late May by signing into its Search Labs program. They have been testing Google's upcoming AI-powered search engine for the past several months. Today, the company announced it is adding a new feature to SGE that will allow users to create artwork via text prompts.

In a blog post, Google stated:

Let’s say you want to make a card for a friend who loves to cook and whose favorite animal is a capybara. If you search for something like “draw a picture of a capybara wearing a chef’s hat and cooking breakfast,” SGE will provide up to four generated images in the results.

Google says some SGE users might also see a new way to make AI-based artwork from Google Images. It stated:

This feature is designed to appear when you’re searching for inspiration, like “minimalist halloween table settings” or “spooky dog house ideas.”

Obviously, this new feature is similar to the many other AI digital art makers that are out there, including OpenAI's DALL-E, and Microsoft's Bing Image Creator. Like those programs, Google says its new generative AI art maker will include guardrails that, in theory, should prevent it from making "harmful or misleading content." All of the art made by this program will also include metadata and digital watermarking to show that it is indeed an AI-made image.

Google is also adding another feature to SGE. It will allow for users to ask the AI to create written drafts for notes, emails, and more. it states:

For example, perhaps you’re looking into home improvement projects, like how to convert your garage into a home office. After finding helpful ideas across the web and contractors you’d like to get in touch with, you can ask SGE to “Write a note to a contractor asking for a quote to turn my garage into a home office.”

Both of these new features should start rolling out today for English US users of SGE. The image creator can only be used by people 18 years of age and over.
