OnePlus Nord 2 could feature flagship-level camera capabilities

OnePlus experimented with something new in its smartphone offerings when it introduced the Nord last year, its first mid-range device in a long while since launching the OnePlus X back in 2015. The Nord brand has since had a couple of handsets under its name, including the Nord N200 5G, N10 5G, and N100.

The next mid-range device OnePlus is planning to launch in the near future is the Nord 2, as the company confirmed last week. Along with that confirmation, OnePlus also revealed a few specs of the phone, some of which represent a flagship-grade performance. We now know, in particular, that the device will be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 1200 AI processor, a flagship chipset unveiled in January.

Now, another area of the phone that could feature a flagship-level performance is its camera. Renowned leaker Ishan Agarwal claimed in a tweet that the Nord 2 will boast a triple camera setup at the back comprising a 50MP main sensor, among others. The camera is said to feature Sony's IMX766 sensor with optical image stabilization.

If the camera specs look familiar to you, that's because it's the same sensor used in the OnePlus 9 series's ultra-wide camera as well as the OPPO Find X3 Pro, both of which are flagship phones. The tweet, however, didn't mention anything about the other camera sensors of the device, although recent rumors suggested it would include 8MP and 2MP sensors as well as a 32MP front shooter.

While these remain unconfirmed for now, OnePlus will shed more light on the handset soon as the Nord 2 is expected to debut in its full glory on July 22 (via GSMArena).
