Sony is launching a gold PlayStation 4, priced at $249 for a limited time

Last week, Sony finally ended production of its venerable PlayStation 3, over a decade after its launch. Now, the company is getting ready to release a new gold version of its PlayStation 4 - but you'll have to be quick if you want to buy one at its launch price.

Coinciding with next week's E3 gaming expo, Sony will run a nine-day sale with discounts on games and accessories, along with the new edition of its PS4.

The gold PS4 will have 1TB of storage, and will include a matching DualShock 4 controller. It will be priced at $249 during the sale, which runs from June 9 to June 17, after which its price will rise to $299, matching the standard PS4.

Sony hasn't yet announced details of the other discounts that will be available during the sale. The company's E3 2017 conference will be held on June 12, a day after Microsoft's gaming announcements, which will include the official unveiling of Xbox Project Scorpio, described as the "most powerful console ever".
