Another studio has entered THQ Nordic's deck of developers, as the company announced today that Warhorse Studios has been acquired for €42.8 million. The Czech studio is responsible for last year's hit RPG Kingdom Come: Deliverance, which currently boasts over two million copies sold across PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
The deal sees Koch Media - THQ Nordic subsidiary - acquiring the entirety of the studio as well as rights to the Kingdom Come: Deliverance IP. Koch Media's publishing arm, Deep Silver, was already responsible for publishing the RPG.
The announcement added that Warhorse will remain operating as an independent studio, with the founders Daniel Vávra and Martin Klíma, along with CEO Martin Frývalský remaining in their roles.
Frývalský also commented on the acquisition, saying "We believe that backing by THQ Nordic will give us an extra push in our mission to bring exciting games to our customers and extend the frontiers of the gaming industry."
THQ Nordic has been buying up studios and well-known video game IPs for some time now, with recent acquisitions including Coffee Stain and Bugbear Entertainment. The company also handles the distribution of retail copies for Microsoft games such as Sunset Overdrive, ReCore, and more.
Two of the company's upcoming published games, Metro Exodus (through Koch Media) and Satisfactory, have timed exclusivity deals with the Epic Games Store. We will have to wait and see if any future projects of Warhorse Studios will also follow in their footsteps and skip out on Steam.
