Jim K Global Moderator Posted February 24, 2016 Global Moderator Share Posted February 24, 2016 ZoneAlarm ... brings back some memories of dial-up and then first experience with cable internet (without a router). But I agree with T3X4S. Windows + Router = no need to pay for firewall software. +E.Worm Jimmy, +Anarkii, T3X4S and 3 others 6 Share Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1289904-what-firewall-to-use-win10-firewallcomodo-or-zonealarm/#findComment-597292428 Share on other sites

+E.Worm Jimmy Subscriber¹ Posted February 24, 2016 Subscriber¹ Share Posted February 24, 2016 If you are behind a router, I really don't see the point of having anything other then build in Firewall GONE are the days when Win XP computer would be infected with 10 different things before you can open the browser to download protection software, if you just plug in. pretty much most internets are behind a router, and the even the plug in jacks are on the networks that have their own protection. Joe User
Your hardware router/firewall will be fine for the average Joe, provided that it's an IPv4 only router or a modern IPv4/v6 router. Now, there's one situation where you can have a router that supports IPv6, doesn't have a firewall on the IPv6 interface and the IPv6 interface is set to automatic. Up until now this wasn't a big deal. However, some ISP's are turning on IPv6, and you may suddenly find yourself on the Internet with only your software firewall. This is rare, but will become more common as more ISPs enable IPv6. cork1958
I use this firewall (the free version), although it's not really a firewall itself, just for seeing what what outgoing things there are. It works with the built in windows firewall, but actually alerts you to connections! I should say I use this when I do actually have it installed! Otherwise, as most have stated, router and windows firewall should be enough. It does work on Windows 10. http://www.sphinx-soft.com/Vista/order.html Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1289904-what-firewall-to-use-win10-firewallcomodo-or-zonealarm/#findComment-597294420 Share on other sites
