In a first-ever, the video Baby Shark Dance has crossed 10 billion views on YouTube. The video, uploaded by Pinkfong, was already the most-watched video on the platform since last year. The video dethroned Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee's Despacito music video which was the previous record-holder for the most views last year.
Pinkfong is a children's education brand that comes under the South Korean company SmartStudy. The channel has uploaded more than 4,000 videos that are based on children's songs, games, and apps.
Pinkfong chief executive Min-Seok Kim said to the Independent:
“It has been a truly meaningful journey to witness how Baby Shark has connected people around the world and we can’t wait to introduce Baby Shark’s further adventures that will bring unparalleled experiences to even more fans everywhere."
The Baby Shark Dance video was uploaded five years ago on 18 June 2016. Since then, it has gotten over 10,003,217,101 views as of writing this post. The music video is a dance number of sorts that the kids like watching on a loop, helping it garner all those views. The song Despacito trails behind at the second position with 7,700,884,017 views since its upload on 13 January 2017.
The music video first went viral across East Asia and has since spawned an animated TV series on Nickelodeon, live tours, and even NFTs.
