Beta for Steel Fang opens next month; game slated to go live in May.
Capcom and Sega are joining forces to coproduce an online game for the PC market. The
multiplayer game, Steel Fang, features a Devil May Cry-style combat system and is set in a sci-fi atmosphere where player characters are cyborg warriors. Conceptual designs for Steel Fang's world are being created by Kazutaka Miyatake, mech designer of the Macross and Rahxephon anime series. Character designs are due from Yutaka Minowa, character design lead from the Vampire Hunter D anime movie.
Sega took the initiative and planned out the project, but the game is being developed by Nextech, under the supervision of Capcom's R&D Division 4, the group behind the Resident Evil franchise. Nextech has woked with the group before, on the Dreamcast title Resident Evil: Code Veronica. Steel Fang can be played by up to six players, either by splitting into two teams or fighting against one another. The character is controlled by a combination of keyboard and mouse moves and can jump off walls or dive to the side while simultaneously shooting.
