The State of Play showcase today from Sony had a surprise reveal from Remedy Entertainment, which brought a brand-new story trailer for Control Resonant. Even Jesse appears for a moment in this latest footage, confirming her appearance in the sequel despite the protagonist switch.
The new trailer sets the stage for the new supernatural crisis that the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC) is facing in Manhattan. With its director, Jesse Faden, missing, the Bureau has turned to her gifted brother Dylan Faden to tackle the growing and otherworldly problem, which is being described as a "new, otherworldly form of resonance, alongside the Hiss and the Mold."
Ditching the gun-toting gameplay of the original, Dylan uses his gravity manipulation powers and the melee weapon dubbed Aberrant to take down enemies. This weapon can shapeshift its form, letting players customize how they wield it and what powers it can utilize, including hammers, scythes, fists, and more.
"As he navigates a distorted Manhattan shaped by paranatural forces and shifting realities, the story explores themes of identity, power, and sacrifice. Once a test subject of the FBC, Dylan must now harness his evolving abilities, confront his past, and learn to trust others in a world he was never meant to be part of. In doing so, he must rediscover his humanity - and decide what he’s willing to lose to save what remains,” said Mikael Kasurinen, Creative Director of Control Resonant.
Control Resonant is set to hit PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 on September 24, 2026. Pre-orders are now open across all platforms for $69.99 for the standard edition, with special editions also available. A PlayStation exclusive bonus has also been attached to the Digital Deluxe edition, which will give pre-ordering players 48 hours of early access to the game.
