Microsoft and Discord have officially announced a new partnership that sees an integration of Xbox Game Pass into the popular messaging service, alongside other benefits for Nitro subscribers. This comes as a new initiative inside Discord named Nitro Rewards, a new benefit program celebrating the service's 10-year anniversary.
Just as a leak revealed last month, Discord Nitro members will see Xbox Game Pass Starter Edition available as a new perk for no added cost, keeping its price steady at $10. This Game Pass variant comes with over 50 games for PC and Xbox consoles, including Fallout 4, Stardew Valley, DayZ, Deep Rock Galactic, Overcooked 2, and Grounded.
10 hours of Xbox cloud play per month is included in the package as well, removing the need for dedicated hardware to install and play the available games. Nitro members are also receiving discounts for Logitech, SteelSeries, and KontrolFreek gear as a part of the new changes, too. Read the full Nitro Rewards announcement here.
"I think this is one of the best benefits weβre offering because it changes how you try games," says Lu Zhang of Discord. "Most of us have spent money on something, played it for a couple weeks, then watched it sit in our library. Game Pass removes that friction."
Discord is calling this Nitro overhaul the biggest change it has made to the service since its launch in 2016. The update with all these changes is now rolling out for Discord users, and it is expected to reach all eligible regions in the coming weeks.
Over on the Xbox side, Microsoft also revealed that being a Discord Nitro and an Xbox Game Pass subscriber will net members extra benefits on Discord, too. This includes 250 Discord Orbs each month, extra Orbs for completing quests, and automatic shop discounts on Discord. These perks will be rolling out later this month.
