Microsoft has been committed to providing a good experience with its apps and services on all mobile platforms, and many of them get updates regularly. Just a couple of weeks ago, Microsoft Edge for Android gained the ability to block ads on the internet, and now you'll be able to translate web pages right from the browser as well.
Today's update brings the browser up to version 42.0.0.2222, and it includes a new feature which will prompt you to translate websites you visit if they're in a different language. The prompt will allow you to translate a webpage right away, but you can also turn off translation for a specific language or website, or set the browser to always translate a specific language. You can also disable translation entirely from the app's settings, as it is enabled by default.
The update also includes a number of smaller new features and improvements as mentioned in the changelog:
- Get in-place web page translations
- Fixed an issue where some Bing.com users were not getting rewards for using Microsoft Edge
- Performance improvements
Those using a work or school account with the browser also have a couple of new features to look out for, including support for Windows Timeline:
- Securely access intranet intranet sites from home
- See mobile browser activity on your PC's timeline
A new link to the Edge beta community on Google+ also appears to have been added to the settings page of the browser.
It should be pointed out that the update didn't show up normally on our devices by checking for updates on the Play Store, but it was shown by swiping over to the "Beta" tab in our library, so it may be a good idea to check there before assuming it isn't available for you. Nonetheless, it may be rolling out gradually, so don't be surprised if you don't see it at all. If you haven't yet, you can grab Microsoft Edge from the Google Play Store here.
