Mozilla has announced that it has come to an agreement with Pico Interactive which will see the Firefox Reality web browser ship on Pico’s Neo 2 all-in-one VR solution. The Neo 2 line consists of the Neo 2 Standard and Neo 2 Eye, additionally, Mozilla says Firefox Reality will also be released and ship with older Pico headsets.
With Firefox Reality, users get the privacy protections they come to expect on other form factors. Those who have a Firefox Account are able to send tabs, sync history, and bookmarks allowing for easy access to content. Firefox Reality also includes a Top Picks section which was introduced in October. Top Picks gives you access to fresh content to consume.
Commenting on the news, Andre Vrignaud, Head of Mixed Reality Platform Strategy at Mozilla, said:
“We are pleased to be partnered with Pico to bring Firefox Reality to their users, especially the opportunity to reach more people through their large Enterprise audience. We look forward to integrating Hubs by Mozilla to bring fully immersive collaboration to business.”
As mentioned by Vrignaud, as part of Firefox Reality, Hubs by Mozilla will be arriving on Pico headsets. If you’re never seen Hubs, it’s a 3D chat room where each person can customise an avatar and move around in a virtual scene. Users can do all sorts of things such as share videos, record in-scene videos and photos, place objects, and talk to other users via microphone or text.
Firefox Reality will arrive on Pico VR headsets later in Q1 2020. While no exact date has been provided, Mozilla will provide updates via the mixed reality blog and its Twitter account.
