LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Video game publishers THQ Inc. THQI.O and Electronic Arts Inc. ERTS.O said on Tuesday that they had inked game deals with two popular stars, with EA re-signing golfer Tiger Woods and THQ signing singer Britney Spears.
Woods has had a deal with EA since 1998, when the first golf game bearing his name was released. This new deal extends their relationship for five years, EA said in a release.
Woods provides his voice to EA's golf games, which appear both on the PC and video game consoles. He has also participated in motion-capture sessions, where his swing is electronically mapped for inclusion in games.
THQ's deal with Spears' licensing company, Britney Brands Inc., gives the company exclusive rights to Britney-branded games through 2005 for PC, the Sony PlayStation 2, and the Nintendo Game Boy Advance, THQ said in a release.
The first game under the deal is expected in the spring of 2002, THQ said.
