Apple has announced that the iTunes App Store now houses over 1.3 million apps developed for iOS devices.
Apps are a key factor behind Apple's success in the mobile arena and the company is not showing any signs of slowing down. According to the latest stats revealed during the launch of the iPhone 6, 6 Plus and the Apple Watch, the iTunes store has over 1.3 million apps which is more than 4 times that of Windows Phone. However, Google's Play Store might be ahead as it had managed to beat Apple to the 1 million mark, last year.
The numbers, though, are impressive as the total number of devices sold by Apple is far less than the billions of Androids available. Apple has continued to gain record revenue from the App Store which has proved to be an important factor in attracting more developers.
Apple has, at times, been quite particular about the apps that make it to the App Store, which makes the current selection an amazing achievement for the company. With the launch of the new iPhones and the Apple Watch, newer apps exploring novelty features are expected to hit the App Store and with NFC payments, Apple can further boost developer interest.
