MediaTek offers first commercial SoC support for Dolby Vision IQ with Precision Detail

MediaTek has announced that it will now offer the first commercial SoC support for Dolby Vision IQ with Precision Detail. Televisions with Dolby Vision IQ now come with Precision Detail feature, and it will be compatible with MediaTek’s Pentonic series for 8k and 4k smart televisions as well.

The Pentonic series will further allow TV manufacturers to offer support for features that have been developed for gaming in Dolby Vision among other enhanced capabilities. MediaTek had joined hands with Dolby for the adoption of these technologies, available beginning in 2H 2022 for TV OEMs to start implementing.

MediaTek’s General Manager of the TV Business Unit, Alex Chen stated:

With our industry-leading chips, paired with astonishing visual and audio technologies powered by Dolby, MediaTek and Dolby are making truly immersive and cinematic entertainment experiences more accessible. MediaTek’s Pentonic series will make it easy for OEMs to bring Dolby Vision IQ with Precision Detail to the next generation of 8K and 4K smart TVs.

The latest feature, Precision Detail, allows for an enhanced experience with Dolby Vision content by delivering “incredible detail in both bright and dark areas,” by joining Dolby’s suite of Advanced technologies accessible via Dolby Vision IQ. Along with Precision Detail, MediaTek’s Intelligent View technology combined with Dolby’s advancements in imaging technology is capable of processing multiple Dolby Vision streams concurrently. Users will now be able to watch various media sources simultaneously in Dolby Vision in multiple windows.

Vice President, Living Room at Dolby Laboratories, Mathias Bendull stated:

Dolby Vision IQ continues this legacy by expanding the benefits of Dolby Vision beyond HDR through innovations like Precision Detail. We look forward to working with MediaTek and our OEM partners to bring stunning Dolby Vision images for more use cases to the next generation of 8K and 4K smart TVs.

The company’s Pentonic series enhances gameplay with support for features that have been developed for gaming in Dolby Vision, including enhancements TV OEMs will be capable of providing their customers like gaming in Dolby Vision at 4K 120Hz.

Moreover, Pentonic chips will also enhance latency and display enhancements when gaming in Dolby Vision via Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) to refine the gaming experience for players.
