Microsoft has just released Visual Studio Code 1.128 to the stable channel. This week, the update focuses on richer multi-chat agent sessions, generally available image support in Chat, and OS-level keyboard shortcuts. The update is now available in the program and should make itself known to you via a notification.
With this update, it is now possible to run several related chats in one Claude session to compare approaches and work in parallel. You can also ask a question in the Agents window without opening a workspace first.
If you are trying to build a program with Copilot, now you can attach images and PDFs to the Chat by pasting, dragging, or dropping them. Copilot Vision may be helpful if you are trying to describe a certain interface design or if you want to have the AI extract data from a PDF.
Another new feature in this update is that you can configure the placement of integrated browser tabs. Microsoft says that keeping tabs organized can be a challenge, so with this release, it will let you choose the location where browser tabs open. You can adjust this setting at workbench.browser.newTabPlacement.
Finally, VS Code now lets you set OS-level keyboard shortcuts that take effect even when the program is not in focus. To use this feature, you need to add systemWide to your keybinding definition in keybindings.json.
