For the past week or so, Moment, known for its photography accessories for smartphones, has been teasing something new. Now, the firm has announced a Kickstarter project for its new anamorphic lens and accompanying accessories.
While the company previously focused on photography, it has now debuted its first lens attachment directed at filmmakers. The anamorphic lens is meant to create horizontal flares and will natively give footage that has a "widescreen, letterboxed look".
According to Moment:
"The 1.33x anamorphic lens brings the organic look and character of 2:40:1 Cinemascope to Moment’s mobile platform. In other words, it’s like shooting a wider focal length in the horizontal direction and a longer focal length in the vertical. You can now capture a super wide-angle image with the inherent shallow depth of field and perspective of a telephoto lens."
However, in order to get this accomplished, it isn't all done with just physical parts and will require Moment's App or Filmic Pro to decode the data captured by the lens. The lens will squeeze the anamorphic look and the app will need to "de-squeeze" it to have it look like proper footage.
The lens is compatible with its current line of cases that are available for the iPhone, Galaxy, and Pixel lines. The project with lens reward can be backed starting at $99, which is being offered for a special discounted price. When it hits retail, it will cost $149. You can also pick up a gimbal counterweight, lens filter, and more cases through the Kickstarter for a discounted price.

Pledging money to the campaign doesn't necessarily guarantee a product, but seeing as how Moment is a trusted brand, the chances of you getting the product you back, should be fairly high. At the time of this writing, the project has already been funded and it will close on April 20.
