New Xbox Insider builds for 1905 and 1910 updates released with improved sorting

Microsoft recently released the April 2019 Xbox Update with a bunch of new features, such as a new mini keyboard for text input, but the company is already working on upcoming updates for the console. Xbox Insiders in the Preview Alpha ring are now testing version 1905 of the Xbox One system, while those in Skip Ahead are already on version 1910, expected to be released in October.

Today, both of those rings got new builds, and both include the same new addition: improved game sorting under My Games & Apps. Essentially, Microsoft has made it so that words such as "a" or "the" are no longer considered when sorting games alphabetically. This could prevent titles from being piled up with other games with significantly different names. For example, The Witcher 3 will now be found under the letter W instead of T.

Aside from that, both builds come with some bug fixes and known issues. Those in the Skip Ahead ring, testing version 1910, are getting just three fixes:

Audio

  • Fixes to address no console audio after system update for some users.

My Games and Apps

  • Fixes to the stability of various Games

System

  • Localization fixes

Those testing version 1905, expected to roll out to everyone next month, in the Preview Alpha ring have a lot more fixes to look out for. This is to be expected since the update is much closer to a public release. Here's what's changed:

Audio

  • Fixes to background audio (BGM) to ensure that BGM and game audio sound fine mixed together with no audio snap/crackle or pop!
  • Fixes to address situations in which the User is not using Spatial sound (Headset format is set to Stereo uncompressed and Bitstream format is not Dolby Atmos).
  • Fixes to address no console audio after system update for some users.
  • Fixes to the stability of spatial audio on system startup and shutdown.

My Games and Apps

  • Fixes to the sorting in My Games and Apps.
  • Games will now correctly show what DLC is installed under managed game as opposed to showing all installed!
  • Fixes to the stability of various Games.

System

  • Fixed the issue with Store Twist only loading the top slot content.
  • Fixes to video playback in the Mixer broadcast thumbnail.
  • Profile account picker UI fixes as users with multiple profiles could not select the top profile in the list.
  • Wi-Fi locked icon fix as it was displaying incorrectly.
  • Fixes to the system performance.
  • Localization fixes

The two builds do have the same known issues, though. Here's what you need to be aware of:

Audio

  • Headsets are not being assigned to the users profiles.
  • Some users are experiencing no audio with headsets and we are investigating
  • Some users are encountering no audio on their Xbox console after boot (no shell audio, no game audio, no app audio), then have CSS ask them to perform the following steps:
  1. Cold reboot the console

OR

  1. Go to Audio settings on console
  2. Change their HDMI audio settings to the highest supported uncompressed channel count for their equipment
  3. Switch back to the desired format
  4. Audio should be restored

My Games and Apps

  • We are tracking the video corruption issue with Youtube 4k playback.

Profile Color

  • Sometimes users may encounter the incorrect Profile color when powering on the console.

The new builds will be available starting at 2PM Pacific Time, or 5PM Eastern Time today. Version 1905 should make its way to other Insider rings sometime soon, too.
