It's been roughly four years since Pebble's highly successful campaign on Kickstarter, and although smartwatches are still in their infancy, the landscape has dramatically changed and become quite competitive. The Pebble Time was introduced nearly a year ago, and while there are doubts that the company would offer a replacement so soon, Pebble has teased an announcement this coming week.
Pebble took to Twitter to announce that "juicy details" would be arriving on May 24th. Although the tweet did not offer any clues, those curious can head to the Pebble webpage to sign up for the latest details. While Android Wear competitors and the Apple Watch offer robust looks and expanded functionality, Pebble has stuck with its formula in offering a no frills smartwatch, that can provide users with up to five days of battery life on a single charge.
If there is one particular area that Pebble could enhance, it would be to offer some form of mobile payment platform for its products. Fitbit recently announced its acquisition of Coin, in order to expedite its entry into mobile payments and this could become a pivotal offering for Pebble in the future.
