Vacuum cleaner maker Dyson is making cars, Google is making cars, Facebook wants to have something to do with cars, cars must all be electric by 2040 in the UK; while all these developments continue, Aston Martin has decided that it's making a submarine.
The luxury sports car maker has paired up with Triton Submarines, and they are collaborating to make a state-of-the-art exquisitely designed submarine, under the codename Project Neptune.
Triton has extensive experience in designing and building submersibles and submarines for researchers, explorers, and superyachts, in essence, the company knows how to make a vehicle that will be able to work well underwater. Aston Martin, on the other hand, prides itself on being able to make a fast car that is also aesthetically pleasing and it also has a new branch called Aston Martin Consulting whose purpose appears to be applying the company's distinct design profiles to luxury things other than cars. So between the two of them, they are going to try to make the sexiest submarine they can.
The design of Project Neptune appears to have allowed Aston Martin to apply some of its distinct designs to an existing Triton submersible platform, or as Aston Martin phrases it:
Triton’s acclaimed Low Profile (LP) three-person platform as a basis upon which to explore a new iteration of Aston Martin’s progressive design language.
The submarine will only come out as a limited edition and Aston Martin hasn't announced when it might be available to purchase.
Submarine designs of the military haven't really moved on from that lumpy blimp style and they have only really come in one color, but Aston Martin may have just made everyone realize that it's important to look good while underwater.
