It wasn't looking good at one point for Republique's chances of being funded by backers of its Kickstarter campaign. The game's development team at Camouflaj set an ambitious $500,000 goal to fund the iOS action game (the company later added PC and Mac platforms) but until a few days ago, that goal was well outside the pace of contributions.
However, thanks to a surge in attention and interest in the game in the past couple of days, Republique has now exceeded its $500,000 goal with less than seven hours to spare. The campaign will end at 6 pm ET so there is still time to check out the page and, if you wish, contribute to the game's development.
Republique is being designed as a "stealth survival" game and Camouflaj's team promises the game will deal with "heavy topics". The game's development is being lead by Ryan Payton, who previously worked as a producer at Konami on Metal Gear Solid 4. He later joined Microsoft and its 343 Industries team to work on Halo 4 but decided to leave Microsoft to form Camouflaj before Halo 4 was released. Republique is due to be released sometime in June 2013.
Update - The final amount for the game raised by Kickstarter backers was $555,562.
